Valenciaport bets on short-distance lines to accelerate decarbonization

The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has participated in the LetExpo fair dedicated to logistics that has been held in the Italian city of Verona.

Valencia - Valenciaport is betting on short-distance shipping lines to accelerate decarbonisation, promote energy transition and the fight against climate change. This boost to this type of traffic has been highlighted at the LetExpo Fair that was held last week in Verona (Italy).

Mar Chao, Head of Sales and Business Development at the Valencia Port Authority (APV) had an intense agenda at the Valenciaport stand at this international event aimed at the sustainable logistics sector. "In addition to being important for the decarbonisation of the industry, this type of traffic is also very competitive for companies, favoring cost reduction and operational profitability", explained Mar Chao.

Valenciaport has 11 international services through the motorways of the sea, which connects the Valencian area with 20 countries and 66 ports. In addition, it has 10 ro-pax connections with the Balearic Islands. During 2022, ro-ro traffic has reached 13 million tons, 0.64% more than in 2021. With regard to automobile traffic, during 2022 it should be noted that the Valencia and Sagunto docks have managed 603,566 units, 22.25% more.

The PAV also presented in this event the strategic projects it is carrying out in terms of sustainable infrastructures such as investment in railways, with works in the Valencia and Sagunto sites, solar plant projects or the ValenciaportPCS tool, strategic in digital transformation.

Mar Chao also spoke at a panel discussion on logistics and the supply chain in Europe that was moderated by Andrea Giambruno, a journalist from TgCom24, and Antonio Errigo, Deputy Director of the Association for Intermodal and Sustainable Logistics (ALIS). Along with Mar Chao were Constantino Baldissara, Commercial, Logistics and Operations Director of the Grimaldi Group; Pino Musolino, President North Central Tyrrhenian Sea (ADPS); Athanasios V. Porfyris, president of Port Igoumenitsa; Lluís Paris from the Barcelona Port Authority; and Bárbara Visentini, executive of Visentini Trasporti Fluviomarittimi.

LetExpo -Logistics Eco Transport Trade Show, is the fair dedicated to logistics, transport and sustainable business services that is held in the Italian city of Verona. It is organized by ALIS in collaboration with Veronafiere, and has the objective of promoting a culture that accompanies the industry in the transition towards mobility and a more sustainable economy.
